What to expect

The State Hermitage Museum is one of the largest artistic and cultural and historical museums in Russia and one of the largest in the world. This museum starts its history from collections of works of art which were gained by Russian empress Catherine II in private capacity.
The Hermitage holdings include nearly three million items dating from the Stone Age to the present. Among them is one of the world’s richest collections of western European painting since the Middle Ages, including many masterpieces by Renaissance Italian and Baroque Dutch, Flemish, and French painters. Russian art is well represented. The Hermitage also has extensive holdings of Asian art; especially noteworthy is its collection of the art of Central Asia.

The Hermitage Museum is recognized for its magnificent and lavish settings, made from agate, jasper, malachite and marble.

After the tour is over feel free to stay in the museum to explore it on your own.
