On the way you’ll see grand cathedrals, high-strung art galleries and Helsinki’s one-of-a-kind Rock Church. Our journey, which might be created by automobile or bus, begins at the port and takes you around the Helsinki peninsula. The highlights of the tour introduces the lifetime of the Capital of Republic of Finland and Helsinki´s numerous historic and architectural periods, all of which mix to create a harmonious urban surroundings.
The impressive historical centre is a nice example of nineteenth century design. The Senate sq. offers a view of the spectacular Helsinki Cathedral, that towers above the sq.and the main building of the Helsinki University, the National Library and also the Government Palace. in the middle of the sq. is a sculpture of the czar Alexander II. The Uspenski Cathedral, the biggest Orthodox Church in northern Europe dominates the eastern skyline of town centre. The close Presidential Palace, created by C.L. Engel, was once the residence of the Russian Czar and grand duke of Finland on his visits to the city. The Ateneum Art museum, the Finnish National Gallery, and the modern Kiasma art museum are both cultural sites worth seeing. Of course, we cannot miss A. Aalto’s Finlandia Hall, that houses a concert hall and a conference centre.
The spectacular Temppeliaukio (Rock) Church is a must-see, the church is carven into a solid rock and combines both technology and a detailed reference to the nature in it´s design. a brief pause is made to see the monument of the notable Finnish musician Jean Sibelius, situated in Sibeliuspuisto park. Another important landmark we’ll visit is theOlympic arena, designed in functionalist style. The Helsinki Olympic Games were held in 1952.
Once in the city centre, we'll take a moment for some free time at the bustling marketplace, where you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the busy, way of life in the distinctiveold Market Hall, do some shopping or explore some more on your own.
The tour ends back in the cruise harbor with a splendid scenic drive back to the pier along the coastline.
Luda was our tour guide and she executed the tour brilliantly! Having many facts and lots of information on offer, she appealed to every individuals interests. She made the cold weather bearable :) lots of love from England
Matt, our guide, was really lovely and gave us a great overview of Helsinki. I always get highlights tours when I travel on my own, but this was exceptional with small number and diverse age range of people. It seems like there are some tours available in Helsinki, but I would highly recommend this one!
Wonderful experience and well worth doing. Took over 4 hours but Nataly’s delivery was informative, interesting, varied, humorous and useful to us, as visitors. Ranging from architecture, bridges, markets, types of transport, distinguishing good eateries, hairdressing, signs and being given easy ways to find good local souvenirs we were glad to have done it as it enhanced our visit.
Thanks Nataly you were ace !!!
Our guide, Stefan arrived punctually to bring us for highlights tour through Helsinki. To be frank only 1 of us was truly interested in history, rest of our group was keen on seeing the sights. By the end of the morning however, we were true believers that we couldn’t explore the city better . How amazing Helsinki is. All thanks to a wonderful day with Stefan.
